5/7/12 Today, I have been thinking of ideas I am interested in. It is very difficult because there are ideas (sport related) that I am very interested in such as Nba Technical Fouls, and if they are fair. In my opinion, I feel as if they are fair in most cases. No player has a right to be rude to a referee. I chose to take the road where it is fair. To the eyes of Nba players, they don’t feel its fair. This is something I will continue to research.
5/8/12 Today I had 5 choices which included smoking, a scientist, algebra, Nba, and a gift vs a choice. It was not really a hard decision because I knew once I had my first idea of the National Basketball League (NBA) Technical Fouls, I could run with that idea. And run I will. So far my research on it is very vague, looking on wikipedia. It turns out Rasheed Wallace is the all time leader in Technical Fouls! This is a bit of information I have got so far and plan to continue all the way until June 6th!
5/10/12 On this day, 1 of my 5 FQI sheets is complete. I am starting to notice this topic of Nba Technical Fouls will be very hard to do this project, but I AM NOT giving up on it. I know tons about this topic, and for the multi-genre-research project, I have ideas already planned out, such as poems I can make. Also, I will be able to make “stories” and scripts depicting the impact of these fouls.
5/16/12 On this day, 1 ofing the impact of these fouls. On this day, I have completed 2 FQI sheets and working on a 3rd one. Now that I have a great understanding of this topic, my mind is always running wild with new genres. I could do a poem about how Technical Fouls are like getting punished by your parents, or a play about a man who leads the NBA in technical fouls because of his anger and so on.I chose this topic because I enjoy watching basketball but I realized how much a Technical Foul is underrated (meaning not known by many people). With this in mind, I plan to show this topic in a multi-genre-research-project.
5/18/12 Now I have found much research for my Technical Foul project. For example I know that there can be no arguing of calls. This will get a Technical along with a $2000 fine. All of my FQI’S are turned in and I’m ready for the first steps of this project.
5/22/12 Today, I have created ideas of a poem and a repeated message to go along with my idea of Nba Technical Fouls. The quote is “The team is more important than your anger.” This goes well with my topic because in the NBA, player’s emotions can get in the way of staying calm. Thus if a person if angry, they have a higher chance of receiving a technical because they can’t control what they say/do.
5/28/12 Today, I have been thinking of ideas I am interested in. This is something I wiThe Technical Fouls project has been going well. In the wiki, I have created 3 different pieces to put into the final project. There is a quote, a short story (that has been enticed from the Narrative writing), and and message to go along to the whole project. Next there will be a news article explaining what a Technical is and more information to the reader. This page should be one of the earlier pages so the reader of the project doesn’t get too confused.
5/30/12:
Today marks a great point in my progress toward the final project. I have created a list, created poems, and much more facts to entice into the project. The poem is in the shape of a “T” which is the signal a referee gives when a technical foul is given. Also, Ms.Dabrush helped me with how to create a news article which was extremely helpful! Can’t wait for more genres to be put in to the wikispaces!
6/1/12:
Today I have put quite a few pages onto the wiki but I have a problem which is for some reason it isn’t letting me put more on. I have created a news article but I can’t post it. I am now working on a talk show idea about people’s opinions on technical fouls. I hope in class we can get more information on what our final product should be like.
6/5/12:
Today, I have 4 genres into my wiki. These genres are 2 poems, a crot, a news article, and a list. I have spent a lot of time on these and hopefully it will help me for a final grade. Also, I plan on making a poster for 1 last genre so I can get a better grade as well. As of now, my wiki includes an almost complete dear reader, the 4 genres stated earlier, a bibliography from my FQI sheets, and a repeated message that flows well with my topic of Nba Technical Fouls. The table of contents needs to be completed and then I will be complete with my MGRP!
6/7/12:
On this final day, my wiki is almost complete. This process journal is the last thing I need to finish. My final project includes a news article, 2 poems, a crot, a list, and a completed poster. As for other things, a repeated message (a repetend) is throughout the project, along with a table of contents and bibliography.
I chose this topic because I always loved basketball but this was a subject I wanted to know more about. I am still very happy I stuck with this topic. My goals for research were to find situations of a Technical so I can use it in a genre. I completed this goal with the Tim Duncan situation. The fact that someone gets fined $2000 per technical astonished me the most. This project helped more than a traditional research paper because it allowed me a writer to show my different skills using different genres. It also allowed us to be more creative with our genres such as flyers and crot poems. I found a ton of information on my topic. This was fairly easy because I had the internet which has lots of links to helpful websites. Had I done a book for research, it would be very difficult to find research because this isn’t a well known topic. As for genres, I made sure I knew how to do this genre and had 0 confusion on weather what I was doing it right or not. For example, I was great with the news article because I was positive on what to do and make it look like. Shane- Please leave the scoring Checklist in the bottom here...
For this last reflection, you should choose four of the nine questions listed here:
Why did you choose your topic? Are you still happy with your choice?
What goals did you have for your research? Did you meet those?
What facts about your topic interested you most? Did this kind of project help you get a better understanding of your topic than you might have with a more traditional kind of research paper? If so, why and in what ways did it help?
How much information did you collect? How easy or hard was it to find information?
What did you learn about the research process from this project? Consider: the best places to find certain kinds of information; what sources are most credible; the best order for conducting your investigation; how to record information and sources; anything else that you learned or that confirmed what you already knew.
What strengths did you use as a writer in this project? What new strengths did you discover?
What criteria did you use in deciding on the genres to include in your paper? What piece was the hardest or most challenging to write? Why? The most fun or interesting? Why?
How did you decide on the organization of the pieces into a cohesive whole? Consider not only organization but use of transitional devices and packaging. What did you learn by working with your peers on revising and editing? Did they give you helpful advice? What was most helpful to you? What kinds of things did you learn from reading their pieces?
